So you like movies?

Then you are probably aware of movie ratings, G, PG, PG-13, R and NC-17. These are all done by the MPPA. But what you don’t know is who rates them, how they are rated and why.

I watched an interesting documentary, ‘This film is not yet rated’, the other day about film ratings, the MPPA and it’s mystery. No ones know who the raters are. No one knows how they rate the movies. Even the MPPA says they have procedures of rating movies, but they are secret. And when given a poor rating and asked why, you’re just told it is against the invisible rules.

It is interesting to watch this documentary to see what some movies have received as the dreaded NC-17 versus R. And even more importantly some of the films that were given an NC-17 rating and other movies that had a similiar scene in the past which received a better rating for release. It also shows that violence is always more accepted than sex.
